Remembrance Day Parade 2024

Glasgow created a record on Remembrance Sunday 2024 when 41 members and friends turned out to attend and parade in the annual memorial event at George Square. It was one of the biggest detachments there, civilian or military. The number was largely due to 18 African students from Robert Gordon College Aberdeen hiring a bus and making the long journey south to take part!
A good number came through from Edinburgh, one electing to bear the UN banner and 5 ladies from our partners the Soroptimists were also in attendance. First to arrive after Guard Commander Bob Paterson - Glasgow Membership Secretary - was a young lady from the USA and she actually bumped into a veteran she had met previously IN America!
Excluding 2020 when the ceremony was cancelled due to Covid it was the 8th successive year UNAS had joined the Glasgow ranks and Bob had to work one of his oracles to get enough tickets to admit everyone to the City Chambers buffet at the finish. Many of the Aberdeen contingent who left the Granite City at 6.30am really made an effort by wearing light blue scarves - the UN colour - and were rewarded by huge applause from the hundreds of spectators when they marched around George Square and the Cenotaph.
